Bio
Sophomore
I am a pre-med second-year student at Stony Brook, currently majoring in Biochemistry with a minor in studio arts. I was born in South Korea, and at the age of 8, my parents and I moved to the states. My interest in art started from elementary school and I have continued to engage in the subject since then.
As a first-generation immigrant student struggling with bullying and cultural differences, I found comfort in art where my emotions and thoughts found a way to freely be expressed. Art became a method of communication that filled the void created by my language barrier. Even now, after years have passed since I became accustomed to the English language, I often find myself turning to art as a medium for communicating thoughts and emotions, when words fail to deliver a genuine message.
Although my current career goal is not in the art field, I plan to use elements of art, the skills, and knowledge I have gained from my art classes as I continue my path towards a career in medicine. I hope to incorporate my passion for art and inspire others to engage in what art can potentially do.
